The following courses are available to Club Members to assits them in volunteer as a life saver for the Club.

Radio Operator

Life Savers use two way radio to communicate with other members, other clubs and even the Surf life saving rescue helicopter. It is essential that members are trained in the correct use of the two way radio system so they can efficiently communicate and request assistance.

This qualification signify that a member has been trained in correct two way radio usage.

Patrol Bronze Star / Medallion

Patrol Bronze Star: The minimum qualification of a functioning member of a patrol team, to be an effective part of a rescue team. A member who holds the Patrol Bronze Star Qualification works under the guidance of members with higher qualifications and is trained to rescue people who are conscious.

Patrol Bronze Medallion: Indicates that a members has more advanced training and experience, and is trained in rescuing a conscious and unconscious patient.

Patrol Lifeguard

The qualification that signifies that a member, has been trained to lead a patrol team and plan and organise serious incidents. The Patrol Lifeguard qualification includes training on incident and risk management, and organising patrol members.


Inflatable Rescue Boat Qualifications

Prior to any member commencing any work in an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB), they must complete an Introduction and Safety Briefing.

IRB Crew: A qualification that indicates a member is trained as an IRB crew person.
IRB Driver: A qualification that indicates a member is trained as an IRB Driver to operate in surf up to one (1) metre.
IRB Driver (High Surf): A qualification that indicates a member is trained as an IRB Driver to operate in surf over two metres.

Trainer & Assessor

A number of pathways exist to becoming an accredited trainer and Assessor for Royal Life Saving, including the following qualifications:
  • Junior Instructor
  • Instructor
  • Teacher of Life Saving
  • Cert IV in Training & Assessment
